PURPOSE:An antiulcer agent useful for remedying and preventing peptic ulcer diseases and gastritis, comprising sulfodehydroabietic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt which is novel except part of it as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An antiulcer agent comprising a compound shown by the formulaIor its pharmaceutically acceptable salt such as a salt of the compound and a metal, e.g., Li, aluminum hydroxide or an amine such as an alkylamide or a compound shown by the formula II, which is novel except part of it (disodium salt, p-toluidine salt), as an active ingredient. The antiulcer agent has improved antipeptic ulcer action, for example, it shows improved inhibiting effect on pepsin secretion, secretion of acid in the stomach, pylorus knot ulcer, drug-induced ulcer and stress-induced ulcer, and has an action to increase the secretion of gastric mucus and to raise the resistance of gastric mucosa. Since it has no action like aldosterone, it does not cause side effects such as hypokalemia and has low toxicity.
