A device(10) for compressing a closure(82) & O-ring(80) within a nuclear reactor control rod drive mechanism comprises a body(12) with a piston slidable in a bore & itself having a bore(42) to receive the closure, and a sleeve(18) adjacent to the piston & movable axially with it. The body bore is pressurized to move piston & movable axially for compression. An O-ring(40) is received in a piston end groove to seal against the body. The sleeve is angularly movable & engages a lock nut(98) to threadably advance this within the mechanism to engage the closure. After depressurizing the lock nut retains the closure & O-ring within the mechanism under a predetermined compressive force. |
