<p>PURPOSE:To improve the precision of character cutting, to reduce the reject rate the erroneous read rate, by using one of the left side and the right side of a form, which is cut more accurately, as a reference side to cut characters. CONSTITUTION:Information indicating that the left side or the right side of a form is used as a reference side is prepared in a format control memory 3. The reference side of the form is determined on a basis of information in the memory 3 for determining the reference side and information indicating sides of the form which is obtained by scanning a line buffer 2. A side detecting part 4 scans the buffer 2 to determine a change point X from ''1'' to ''0'' when information for determining the reference side indicates that the left side should be used as the reference side and to determine the change point X from ''0'' to ''1'' when this information indicates that the right side should be used as the reference side. Coordinates of the point X are sent to a character cutting part 5, and the cutting part 5 cuts character patterns at every character, and character patterns are recognized in a recognizing part.</p> |
