PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of a character reader, by designating easily read object characters and read inhibit characters in an optional region unit such as a line, a field or characters on a form not to provide a character set table of one character-one bit correspondence. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 101 for controlling the whole of the system, an ROM102 for storing a control program, an RAM103 for a work area, and a dictionary 104 for character recognition are connected to a system bus 110 of an optical character reader. Further, photoelectric converting part 105, a line buffer 106, a character recognizing part 107, an answer buffer 108, etc. are connected to the bus 110. A position of a line, a field, or a character unit on a form is designated, and read object characters and read inhibit characters are designated easily in an optional region unit. The whole of the device is controlled by the processor 101 in accordance with this designation, and the dictionary 104 is referred to recognize characters in the recognizing part 107, and thus, the constitution of the reader is simplified. |
