A window element for subsequent installation in openings in buildings, in particular in window openings of prefabricated garages, is described, the frame of which window element is divided and grips in a U-shape around the opening reveal. The two frame halves are braced against one another on the outer or on the inner wall with their sash flanges contacting, as a result of which the window element is fixed in the recess. The outer frame half constitutes an integral constituent of the window frame, which is supported with an integrally moulded-on sash flange directly via a peripheral seal on the outer peripheral edge. This window element is distinguished, in particular, by greatly simplified mounting and by the greater economic efficiency of manufacture.
