On a former for forming a paper web, the latter is formed at least partially between two revolving wires on a wire frame. At least in the drainage region formed by the two wires, the wire frame is designed in the web running direction as a fixed wire shoe with a curvature which at least partially increases in the web running direction. Between the wire shoe and the wire above, a liquid-impermeable belt is provided which runs over the wire shoe with at least approximately the wire speed.
