<p>In the field of waste reclamation, solid particulate waste material is classified by size and/or density. The solid particulate material is entrained in a liquid stream, typically water and the liquid stream is then injected from a nozzle 19 into a body of the liquid contained in a channel 10 so as to produce a flow of the liquid along the channel. The flow velocity along the channel is less than the injection velocity from the nozzle 19. The channel 10 is shaped as a venturi with a restricted region 14 near the injection nozzle 19 so that the velocity of flow decreases progressively along the channel. Entrained particulate material of varying size or density sinks to the bottom of the channel or floats to the top at different distances along the channel and can then be collected for reclamation. <IMAGE></p> |
