PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of concentrated stress in a joint part performing the welding from a front side and to improve reliability of strength in the stage of welding the outside cylinder and end plate of a cylindrical structure, by fitting a backing means consisting of a bar-like elastic body in the prescribed position in the outside cylinder, then setting the end plate from the outer side and subjecting both to fillet welding. CONSTITUTION:The outside circumference of a coil spring 1 is enclosed with heat resistant fibers 2 of glass fibers or the like in its longitudinal direction, whereby a backing strip 3 is formed. Said strip 3 is fitted like a ring in an outside cylinder to be welded, on the inner side of the position where an end plate 5 is to be mounted. The end plate 5 is inserted from the front side into the outside cylinder 4 in such a way as to contact tightly with the strip 3 and is positioned accurately by inserting a tool or the finger through the small hole 6 of the plate 5. Thereafter, the cylinder 4 and the plate 5 are subjected to fillet welding from the front side and molten metal is run into the triangular spacing enclosed by the strip 3, the cylinder 4 and the plate 5. When the molten metal solidifies, the penetration beads having a uniform section are formed in the circumferential direction, whereby the stress concentration in the weld zone is relieved, strength is increased and the reliability of the weld zone is improved. |
