A rear wheel suspension for motor vehicles has a wheel carrier for carrying a rear wheel, which is rotatably mounted about an axis of rotation passing through its centre point; a semi-trailing arm, the rear end section of which is articulated by means of an essentially vertical swivel journal on the wheel carrier at a point lying in front of the said axis of rotation and the front end section of which is articulated so that it can swivel vertically on a body of the vehicle about a swivel axis, which extends obliquely inwards and rearwards in relation to a transverse line; and a guide rod arranged essentially transversely which at its one end is articulated on the body of the vehicle so that it can swivel about a first axis of articulation extending essentially in the longitudinal direction and which at its other end is articulated on the wheel carrier behind the point at which the semi-trailing arm is articulated on the wheel carrier, so that it can pivot about a second axis of articulation extending essentially in the longitudinal direction. <IMAGE>
