A composition comprises 50 to 10 wt. per cent of a fibre-forming polyester containing cyclic structures dispersed in 50 to 90% of an oriented fibre-forming polyamide containing less than 40% of end groups reactable in the melt with the polyester at temperatures up to 300 DEG C., the polyester having a glass transition temperature in the amorphous form of at least 50 DEG C. and higher than that of the polyamide and also having a higher tensile modulus than the polyamide measured on filaments drawn to an ultimate elongation not above 20%. The composition must be substantially free of gel particles and the polyamides substantially completely removable from the polyamide by leaching. When the compositions are processed into filaments the polyester forms microscopically fine reinforcing fibres along the polyamide filament axis. Specified polyamides are nylons 6 and 66 with the amine ends blocked, e.g. with a mono- or dicarboxylic acid or monoisocyanate. Several polyesters of various aromatic acids are specified. The dispersed polyester preferably has a particle size of 0.5 to 5 microns. Specified optional ingredients are stabilizers, e.g. copper compounds or acetone-diphenylamine condensates; fillers, e.g. silica or carbon black; and adhesion-promoting, fluorescent and dispersing agents.
