1,124,637. Oil/gas separator. BORG-WARNER CORP. 19 Oct., 1965 [12 Nov., 1964], No. 44302/65. Heading B1M. A liquid/gas separator for a submersible well pump comprises a housing defining a reservoir chamber 15 disposed in operative association with the inlet of a submersible well pump, P, a passageway interior 17 providing fluid communication between the reservoir chamber 15 and the pump, P, inlet openings 49 in the housing providing fluid communication between the well C and the reservoir chamber, retention cups 27 defining retention chambers 29 disposed in overlying relation to and communicating with the inlet openings 49, the retention cups 27 defining inlets 103 which initially receive fluid from the well, the inlets 103 to the retention chambers being larger than the inlet openings 49 in the housing and the retention chambers 29 having a capacity sufficient to momentarily retain well fluid entering the chamber to permit entrained gas to escape from the fluid and return to the well. In action, oil from well C is drawn into retention cups 27 and through plate 49 and ports 69 and 25 by rotating impeller 23 and pump P, which impeller delivers the oil via port 83 and passageway 17 to pump P. The oil gives up entrained gas as it flows down the cups. Any gas collecting in the passageway 17 is removed by bleed 105. The pump P and impeller 23 are rotated via shaft S by motor M. |
