<p>The present invention is a dampening feed apparatus for offset printing presses. The apparatus includes a form roller adjacent to the plate cylinder, a solution metering means lying parallel and tangent to the form roller and beyond the uppermost tangent of the form roller in the direction of rotation, a supply of dampening solution adjacent the metering means and the form roller, and means for automatically maintaining the level of the solution supply. Rotation of the form roller results in a metered quantity of solution being fed to the form roller, a portion of that quantity being applied to the lithographic plate, and the excess of that quantity being returned to the supply, whereby excess solution is prevented from building up adjacent the plate cylinder.</p> |
