[Also in Division F2] A servo-operated valve comprises a main closure member 16 integral with a piston 15 working with clearance in a cylinder 13 suspended by rib 14 in a casing 10. A spring 47 urges the main valve towards seat 17 surrounding the outlet 12. When a solenoid valve 18 is operated to vent cylinder 13, the fluid-pressure acts on the piston to open the main valve and the latter moves until a rod 51 opens a pilot valve 48, 49 to admit fluid to the cylinder. The pilot valve comprises a rotatable and axially movable member 49 urged by spring 50 into contact with the rod 51. Partially surrounding member 49 is a sleeve 48 defining a helical track (53) the ends of which merge with tracks (54, 55), the latter being perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve. The pilot valve opens when the end of an axial groove (58) in member 49 moves past the part of the helical track aligned therewith. A member 20 responsive to the pressure or temperature of the fluid rotates member 49 relative to sleeve 48 to determine what travel of the main valve is necessary to open the pilot valve.</p> |
