PURPOSE:To form a lightweighted reduction brake by a method wherein a flywheel, with teeth on the surface located between an engine and a tansmission, is provided and a magnetic field consisting of a magnetic material, a coil, and an energy converter is provided in the vicinity of the flywheel. CONSTITUTION:A rotor 5, consisting of the flywheel with a number of teeth 9 on the surface, is provided on the crank shaft located between the engine and the transmission, and retarder units 7 and 7', consisting of a core 13 and a short- circuit ring 16 with cooling pipes 21 and 22 which were installed at the point of the coil 14 and the core 13, are povided in the vicinity of said rotor 5. Then, damping force is generated at the rotor 5 by forming a magnetic circuit with the excited coil 14, and at the same time, mechanical energy is converted to heat energy by the current on the short-circuit ring 16, and the engine is cooled by cooling water. Accordingly, the engine can be made smaller, sufficient damping force can be obtained even when the total displacement is reduced, and a light- weighted retarder can be formed without having a specific shaft. |
