PURPOSE:To enable to start a direct injection type diesel engine with ease with no use of a glow heater even if the ambient temperature is rather low, by forming an extension at the top of a nozzle tube in the manner that it is extended into a combustion chamber, and attaching a heating means having a heat producing portion to said extension at the top of the nozzle tube. CONSTITUTION:When current is supplied from a glow control circuit to a lead wire 28 for starting an engine, current is passed to a heating portion 24 via a lead wire 23. Resultantly, the heating portion is red heated and heats an extension 21B at the top of a nozzle tube 21. With starting the engine in this state, air drawn and compressed by a piston 5 is heated through heat exchange with the heated extension 21B of the nozzle tube 21. When the temperature of air is thus raised to a compression-ignition temperature, fuel introduced from an injection port 21A is ignited and the engine is started. After the engine started, current supply to the heating portion 24 is stopped. By employing such an arrangement, it is enabled to start the engine with ease even if the temperature is lower than, for intance, -10 deg.C. |
