White and slightly basic; values of elemental analysis: H 8.31, C 59.99, and N 1.43; molecular weight: 845; melting point: 138-141 deg.C; specific rotatory power:[alpha]<23>D=-115(C 1.0 methanol). USE:An antibacterial agent for Gram-positive bacteria. PROCESS:A bacterium such as Streptomyces ambofaciens NRRL 2420 belonging to the genus Streptomyces is cultivated under aerobic conditions at 24-30 deg.C at a pH of 6-8. |
