<p>Papermaking machine stuff box contains a baffle inthe form of a vertical perforated plate filling the whole of the cross-section of the box. The size and arrangement of the holes is such that, for any vertical line, the sum of the 'open' lengths differs by not more than 5%-age points from the mean of all such sums in relation to the height of the plate. For any vertical strip of the plate at least 2.5 mm. wide, the sum of the aperture areas differs by not more than 3%-age points from the mean of all such sums in relation to the area of the strip. The total aperture area is 40-85% of the area of the plate. This arrangement produces a uniform mass distribution which prevents the formation of stripes in the web.</p> |
