In a circuit for generating a composite AM stereo signal, a carrier with a first signal which contains the stereo difference information, is angle-modulated and the carrier thus angle-modulated is then amplitude-modulated with a second signal containing the stereo sum information. To reduce the distortions, the distortions to be expected are determined in advance by means of a simulated transmitter and a simulated receiver and a correction signal is generated which contains signal components corresponding to the distortions. Using the correction signal thus generated, the angle modulation signal is changed by using a feedback method or a subtractive mixing method or using both methods, in order to reduce by this means the distortion in the output signal of the stereo difference channel of the actual AM stereo receiver which receives the composite AM stereo signal.
