In a police guard shield which is provided in its surface with an outwardly pointing inclined rectilinear curvature for receiving the user's arm holding the guard shield, the curvature having passing over it on the inside of the guard shield in its upper region a handle and in its lower region confronting the user's arm an additional arm holder which retains the user's arm in the lower-arm region, fatique phenomena as a result of static holding work caused by holding the shield are to be avoided. This object is achieved, according to the invention, in that the curvature for receiving the user's arm consists of two intersecting curvature portions (3, 4), for which there are, on the far side of the intersection point (20), two handles (5, 6) assigned to the parts (3a, 4a) of the curvature portions (3, 4) projecting beyond the intersection point (20) and, on this side of the intersection point (20), that is to say in the lower-arm region, two holders (7, 8) for the lower arm, the two curvature portions (3, 4) forming between them an angle of approximately 60 DEG to 120 DEG . This ensures that the shield can be held by one or other of the user's hands or with both hands and, if appropriate, with the arms crossed. <IMAGE>
