NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING OF TYRES

A tyre inspecting apparatus includes a frame (100) having a spindle (102) on which a tyre (112) to be inspected can be rotatably mounted. An array of ultrasonic acoustic receiving transducers 210 is supported by the frame (100) in close proximity to the tyre. The transducers are arranged to detect ultrasonic pulses transmitted by an ultrasonic transmitter or transmitters within the tyre. In operation the tyre is rotated and ultrasonic pulses are detected by the transducers 210 after they have passed through the tyre wall. The electrical output of the transducers 210 is applied to a suitable electrical circuit which controls a display for displaying information indicative of the condition of the tyre.
