A pressure booster for a fuel injection system has a control piston, the larger end face of which defines a first working chamber, connectable to the injection pump, and the smaller end face of which defines a second working chamber, connectable to the injection nozzle. The stepped piston comprises a first piston section of larger diameter and a second piston section of smaller diameter. A first spring tries to force the first piston section into the first working chamber and a second spring, which is weaker than the first spring, tries to hold the second piston section against the first piston section, thereby covering the through-holes in the first piston section. The second spring is supported on the first piston section and therefore moves with the first piston section so that a very short spring can be used. |
