A ski (1), in particular a cross-country ski with a safeguard against slipping backwards, has at least one retaining element which can be pushed forwards over the running surface against restoring elements and is arranged in the region of the front part of a ski binding receiving the toe of the skier. In order to design a ski (1) of this type in such a way that the safeguard against slipping backwards is of simple construction, that the distance between the top of the ski (1) and the bottom plate or underside of the ski boot (4) is kept small but the ski (1) is still effectively prevented from slipping backwards, the distance between the top of the ski (1) and the bottom plate or the boot sole being fully utilisable for the spring path, and the safeguard against slipping backwards offering the possibility of rapid individual adjustment to the skier, the part of the safeguard against slipping backwards which can be displaced over the running surface has at least one blade (5), arranged transversely to the running direction of the ski (1), and the restoring elements are recessed into the ski (1). <IMAGE>
