An optical scanning system is disclosed which consists of a deflecting device for deflecting a light bundle, a medium which is swept by the light bundle deflected via the deflecting device, and an optical imaging system which is installed between the medium and the deflecting device. A further characteristic is that via the optical imaging system there is a mutual conjugate relationship between a linear image near the deflecting/reflecting surface of the deflecting device and a point on the surface of the scanning medium. The angle which is enclosed in a plane parallel to the deflecting plane of the light bundle by the optical axis of the optical imaging system and the optical axis of the light bundle impinging on the deflecting device is selected such that a double image is projected in the direction of the scanning line of the scanning medium and comes to lie outside the actual scanning area.
