The fluid which is transferred to a web of material by means of an application device is constantly measured during application. A differential measurement between the incoming and the outgoing fluid or better a measurement doctor which is arranged to the side of the working width of an application roller serves this purpose, said doctor continuously doctoring the fluid taken up by the roller from a fluid trough and feeding it to a flow rate measuring device which is preferably constructed as a syphon pipe and has the measuring device in the rising section. <IMAGE>
