The adhesion of fibres, treated with a resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex dip, to ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene elastomers is improved by the presence of an additive in the elastomer composition. The additive is an acid of the formula A(COOH)x or an anhydride thereof, where x is 1 or 2, the acid groups being vicinal if x is 2, and A is phenyl, C2-C10 alkylene, C2-C10 alkenylene, C6-C10 bridged or nonbridged cycloalkylene or cycloalkenylene, with the proviso that A is C1-C6 if x is 1. Elastomer compositions and a method of bonding elastomers to fibres are described. |
