The invention relates to a textile, cushioning, elastic filling material comprising spherical particles which consist of clumps of wool fibres and in which the fibres of an outer layer have been felted while the fibres in the interior of the core have air-enclosing voids. The invention also relates to a process for manufacturing the filling material particles wherein a wool fibre strand is opened and cut into sections of a predetermined length and the fibre strand sections are each rubbed or rolled between mutually opposite surfaces to form spherical particles while at the same time the outer surface of the particles is moistened, so that the outer layer of the spherical particles shrinks or contracts and becomes felted.
