PURPOSE:To increase both the high-rate charge-and-discharge performance and the life of a sealed alkaline storage battery by improving both the oxidization-resistant performance and the hydrophilic property to alkaline electrolyte of the battery, and enhancing the contact between electrode plates and a separator. CONSTITUTION:In the figure, which is a magnification of the important part of the cross section of a sealed cylindrical nickel-cadmium battery of this invention which is prepared by use of a woven or nonwoven fabric, the symbol 2 represents a cathode plate, the symbol 3 represents an anode plate, and the symbol 4' represents a woven or nonwoven fabric prepared according to this invention. A polyolefin-system woven or nonwoven fabric can be graft-polymerized and given a hydrophilic property by a voluntary method such as a simultaneous radioactive-ray radiating method or an ultraviolet-ray radiating method. After a desired grafted polyolefin-system woven or nonwoven fabric is obtained by a method voluntarily selected from among these methods, the woven or nonwoven fabric is compressed into a given thickness. Here, a compression method may be a rolling method such as calender roll or compressure such as press, and can be selected voluntarily according to the manufacturing method and process. |
