A block has front and rear faces (1, 1') interconnected by transverse strips (2) defining rectangular cavities (2') which extend through the height of the block. At one end the strip (2) projects beyond the vertical edges of the front and rear faces (1, 1') to form a male fitting, a corresponding female fitting being formed at the other end of the block. The male fitting is provided with convergent side surfaces (3') and the female fitting with divergent side surfaces (4') to facilitate interengagement of adjacent blocks. Similarly, the front and rear faces (1, 1') together with the strips (2) define a male fitting at the top of the block and a female fitting at the bottom of the block. Modified blocks are provided for use at corners, adjacent window and door openings, for use in the top course, and for interconnecting mutually perpendicular walls.

|
