PURPOSE:To simplify a driving circuit considerably, by constituting an optical shutter array with three polarizers, which have planes of polarization shifted at 90 deg. from one another, and two ferrodielectric electrooptic media and applying a voltage selectively to electrodes arranged between a set of polarizers. CONSTITUTION:In an optical shutter array, a pair of PLZT elements 24 and 25 are arranged between three polarizers 21, 22, and 23 which have directions of polarization shifted at 90 deg. from one another. The element 24 is provided with a common electrode E1 and signal electrodes S1, S2, S3, and S4 facing to the electrode E1. The element 25 is provided with a common electrode E2 and selecting electrodes G1 and G2 facing to the electrode E2. For example, in case of an array consisting of 1728 shutter elements, the number of selecting electrode terminals is 48 when the number of signal electrode terminals is 36, and the total number of terminals to be controlled is 84, and thus, a driving circuit is simplified considerably. |
