PURPOSE:To obtain an ECD element which permits displaying with many different colors and sure and quick recognition of various kinds of information by packing a mixture consisting of plural kinds of transition metallic oxides as an electrochromic (EC) material. CONSTITUTION:A transparent display electrode 2 of In2O3-SnO2 is ofrmed on the surface of a transparent glass plate 1, and an EC material film consisting of a mixture of plural kinds of metallic oxides (for exmpale, a mixture of WO3, V2O5, etc.) is vapor deposited on the electrode 2, whereby a color developing layer 3 is formed. A solid-state insulating layer 4 is provided by vapor deposition of CaF2 on the layer 3 and a counter electrode 5 for the display electrode 2 is formed of Au on the layer 4. The Au is vapor deposited to 100-200Angstrom thickness to the semitransparent type that can utilize rays from either direction of the front side and rear side. If the voltage conditions to be applied upon the light emitting layer 3 are selected by, for example, compounding ratios of WO3 and V2O5, the element is made colorable to different hues of blue, bluish green, dark green and brown. |
