Automatic control device is provided for the winding tension of woven fabric issuing from a loom as it is wound on to the fabric beam. The tension device is introduced on the rotary drive from the fabric receiving roller. The device comprises a tension roller which displaces according to the tension in the fabric, and a mechanism transmitting this displacement to a blocking device for a screw nut which tightens a friction coupling when the fabric tension lessens. Means are provided to untighten the assembly manually, so as to bring the friction to its initial state when the fabric beam is changed. Automatic tension control is not influenced by wear or spring fatigue. It may be applied to double fabric looms, where the double fabric is used to form two pile fabrics, and a single device may control the winding of two fabric beams at once, from the variations in tension of only one of the fabrics.
