<p>The beam has a core fabricated from welded steel components to form a hollow section which can be square, rectangular or polygonal. The steel section is covered with reinforced concrete. The ends of the beam each have a V-shaped notch and mortise slots may be provided along its length. Beams are joined end to end by a joint ring whose steel core extends either side to engage in the hollow section of the beams. The concrete coating of the joint ring is formed to engage the end notches. Other beams can be joined at right angles employing tenons to engage in the mortises.</p> |
