The wrench uses a chain (5) to grip a cylindrical article and can increase or relax the strength of the grip. Grip strength may be increased by pivoting two lever arms (1,2) towards one another about a common fulcrum (4), the system also being used to effect a rapid engagement of a cylindrical article. One end of a lever may be fitted with a serrated edge which prevents the assembly from slipping relative to the article.
