A description is given of a revolving cylinder engine which has a housing which defines an annular space and in which two block-shaped pistons, each provided with a first end face, are arranged or guided so as to carry out mutually opposite circular movements such that, at two mutually opposite points in the housing, they reach a position of confrontational engagement which extends across the width of the annular space and in which the first end faces of the pistons face one another. At least one of the pistons has on its first side a concavity or recess, so that when the pistons are in their position of confrontational engagement, they define between them a sealed chamber. An arrangement of pins which are connected to the pistons and run in grooves provided in the housing makes it possible, in the position of engagement in one of the two abovementioned positions of revolution, for the pistons to be rotated as a unit through 180 DEG in one direction and, after separation and before being moved towards one another again to effect engagement at the other point, to be rotated individually through 180 DEG in the opposite direction. The pistons are connected to a torque transmission device for the take-off or supply of work or power from or to the engine.
