The invention relates to a method and a device for the transport of buttons or the like by a two-headed transfer machine which is intended for the two-sided processing of the abovementioned buttons. The method provides for the following three operations: in the first operation, the bar located on the second head inside the collet chuck installed for receiving the button is moved towards the button until it reaches it. In the second operation, the button, after being left free, by means of the collet chuck installed in the first head, by the bar arranged inside this collet chuck, is transferred to the opposite collet chuck, with the continuous counteraction of the bar located in the last-mentioned collet chuck, so that it can neither rotate nor slip as a result of the effect of gravity. In the third operation, the button, as soon as it reaches the corresponding position, is grasped by the second collet chuck, and the two bars which have controlled its movement return to their basic position. In an alternative version, a single bar or both bars can be replaced by corresponding sleeves. These serve at the same time as the stop for the button. <IMAGE>
