The invention relates to a steel tape measure in stretched form or in the fashion of a rolled tape measure at one end of which a stop bracket is arranged. According to the invention, the stop bracket consists of a permanently magnetic material. As a result, the stop bracket is automatically held on the edge of a piece of material of iron or steel that is to be measured.
