A multi-stage centrifugal pump (2) is arranged in connection with a canister (1) for the feeding of pumped medium so that the pump inlet is deeply immersed in the canister, whilst the intake and pressure connections (5, 8) and the motor are arranged above the canister. The pump is connected to the canister by designing the canister cover (7) as one pump stage (6) of a pump stage as far removed as possible from the intake aperture (3). The unit can be sunk in the ground with the canister (1). For liquids which have to be pumped close to their boiling point, the intake conditions are thereby improved whilst the connection elements, the motor and the fittings remain accessible above ground. <IMAGE>
