[Also in Division H1] An incandescent lamp has a translucent case of flexible elastomeric material, peripherally grooved about the major axis of the lamp, disposed about the envelope of the lamp and attached thereto so that all the light emanating from the lamp passes through the elastomeric covering and is diffused thereby. The lamp may be formed by coating a peripherally grooved pattern of the lamp with an elastomeric resin, curing the resin coating, removing from the pattern the elastomeric case formed and placing it over the lamp. The resin may be applied on to the pattern by spraying, dipping into a liquid elastomeric resin, or in a fluidized bed of the resin. Elastomeric resins mentioned are silicones, urethanes and fluoro plastics, e.g. dimethyl siloxane polymer, polyvinylidene fluoride, and the reaction product of tolylene diisocyanafce with a hydroxyl terminated polyester made from ethylene glycol and adipic acid. |
