A device comprising at least one tube (25) about which at least one helical blade (25 min ) is wound, which merges into a scoop (19) at its discharge end an opening (31) being provided in the wall of the tube which is partially surrounded by said scoop, while said tube is hollow at least at the position of said scoop, so that material removed from the top surface of the body of ground material by the helical blade is collected by the scoop and discharged through said opening in the wall of the tube and through said hollow portion of the tube; said tube is mounted for rotation in a supporting means capable of being moved along horizontally disposed guide means (9) over said body of ground material.
