<p>An orthodontic appliance for correction of mandibular retrognathia comprises positioning structure (16) operatively disposed between a lower part (22) for stabilizing the lower arch as a unit and an upper part (44) for stabilizing the upper arch as a unit. The lower part (22) constitutes a splint which is applied as a unit to the lower arch and comprises a plastic body (24) bonded to cusps of the lower arch teeth with metal inserts (26) and reinforcing wire (28) embedded in the plastic. Pivots (30) project from the plastic for connection with the positioning structure (16). The upper part (44) comprises an arch wire (78) joined to brackets (58, 80) on the upper teeth, and the most rearward brackets (80) comprise triple buccal tubes (66, 68, 76). The arch wire (78) fits into tubes (76), and connectors (50) on the upper ends of the positioning structure (16) have projections (54, 56) fitting into tubes (66, 68).</p> |
