The individual products are arranged at intervals on a transport belt (1-2 in Figure 1) and fed alternately to two stacking devices (B-C, D-E) which are arranged one after the other in the feeding direction (Z). The feeding to the second stacking device (D-E) takes place through the first stacking device (B-C) whose operation is blocked during the operation of the second stacking device (D-E) but is kept open for the products (A). Assigned to each stacking device (B-C, D-E) is a delivery device which has circulating transport chains (17) and to which the packages (P) are fed, and on which the delivery of the packages (P) takes place in a direction at right angles to the feeding direction (Z) of the overall apparatus. A high throughput speed can be achieved with the apparatus since, during the transfer of a package (P) from one stacking device (B-C) to the delivery device (17) through the other stacking device (D-E), the next package (P) is already being formed. <IMAGE>
