A support bar for a seat shell of a stadium chair or the like consists of a bent tubular portion which can be attached, on the one hand, below the seat shell and, on the other hand, to a bearing surface. The support bar (20, 40) is bent to form an essentially closed flat loop (2). The ends of the tubular portion are bent towards the interior of the loop (2) at the point (30) at which they meet, and project freely beyond the centre of the loop (2). At that point, they exhibit the attachment point on the bearing surface. <IMAGE>
