In order to achieve a volumetrically metered discharge of solids, the external control piston (14) of a centrifuge for separating solid/liquid mixtures is provided with an annular groove-like receptacle chamber which is connected during the opening phase of the control piston (14) via discharge openings (13) to the separating space (26) of the centrifuge and from which the solid is fed off via emptying openings (23) which are formed so as to be substantially smaller in cross-section than the discharge openings (13).
