Method for the autoinfusion of water and/or nutrient solutions in cuttings for the purpose of economic woody plant propagation

The invention relates to a method to be used for vegetative woody plant propagation by leafless or leafed softwood or hardwood cuttings - conifer included - from spring to autumn. The vegetative propagation method, which has now become the most important one, is, however, from plants which root easily, by no means without problems because the unrooted shoot lives entirely on the food contained in the shoot, which is naturally limited. An additional factor is the continuous water loss which not uncommonly leads to "parching" of the plant. The method according to the invention counteracts this circumstance by pushing or placing on top of the upper cut(s) of the cuttings for example a piece of tubing or a hollow body which fulfils the same purpose, sealingly around the periphery of the shoot, and this, filled with water and/or nutrient solution, takes over the supply of nutrients to the cutting by autoinfusion. The total supply to the shoot achieved in this way makes it possible to use cuttings of unequal length and even those which are difficult to root, and these develop remarkably quickly. <IMAGE>
