This adaptor is mainly used in domestic video technology, in which audio/video devices such as video recorders, television sets with audio/video connection, video disc players, video cameras and the like having different connection technologies are used for the audio- and video-frequency input and output lines. Essentially, there are two types of connecting technologies. In one, one line in each case is used jointly as signal input and as signal output for audio and video. In the other connecting technology, separate signal inputs and outputs are present for audio and video (Figure 1). If two video devices of different connecting technology are to be connected to one another (for example video recorder and television set with audio/video connection), the lines must in each case be manually replugged or switched over when the direction of signal flow changes. This process can be handled automatically by the audio/video adaptor described in that it recognises from the video signals supplied to it whether one of the connected devices is operated as signal source or sink and correspondingly carries out the switch-over process. <IMAGE>
