PURPOSE:To extend the time when a solidified layer contacts with a rotary wheel and to prevent the interruption of an ingot by providing a gradient to the parts near the circumferential surfaces on the side surfaces of the rotary wheel in such a way as to increase wall thickness the nearer the outer side and bringing said cylindrical circumferential surfaces into contact with molten metal. CONSTITUTION:Such a gradient at which wall thickness increases the nearer the outer side is provided to the part 1A near the circumferential surfaces on both side surfaces of a rotary wheel 1. Then when the parts 1A near the circumferential surfaces are brought into contact with molten metal 3, the timing when the formed solidified layer 3A spaces from the wheel 1 is delayed by the solidified layer 3B formed in the part 1A even if gravity, centrifugal force or stripping tension acts upon the layer 3A. Since the layer 3A is stripped from the wheel 1 after said layer is thoroughly cooled, the interruption of the ingot is obviated. |
