PURPOSE:To pull apart the solidified layer formed when the circumferential edge part of a rotary wheel is brought into contact with molten metal continuously and easily as an ingot from the rotary wheel by forming the parts on the side surfaces of the rotary wheel in contact with the molten metal into heat insulating structure. CONSTITUTION:Mold coating materials 10 having smaller heat conductivity than that of the material forming a circumferential edge part 1a are coated on the side surfaces of a rotary wheel 1. Then a heat insulating effect is provided to the side surfaces of the wheel 1 by the mold coating material layers. Or the mold material on the outside surface parts of the wheel 1 having heat conductivity smaller than that of the material in the part 1a may be used. Then the side surfaces of the wheel 1 have a largest heat insulating effect than the part 1a and therefore even if the depth of immersion of the wheel 1 into the molten metal is increased, the solidification of the molten metal on the side surfaces of the wheel 1 decreases. Thus the solidified layer formed in the part 1a can be pulled apart easily from the wheel 1. |
