Date Jan. 20, 1983.An hydrophilic microporous diaphragm comprising a fluorine-containing substrate to which has been radiation co-grafted a mixture of monomers comprising at least one functional monomer of formula I, CF2=CF(CF2)nA, formula II, CF2=CF-O-(CFX-CFX)mA, a dicarboxylic acid containing the group of formula III, -R3(COOH)-R4(COOH)-, and at least one non-functional monomer of formula IV, CY2=CYZ, or formula V <IMAGE> wherein the molar ratio of co-grafted functional monomer to non-functional monomer is in the range of 2:1 to 1:20. These diaphragms have enhanced wettability for improved performance in chlor-alkali cells. |
