PURPOSE:To provide small dispersion of dimension of a metal fiber in a production method of the metal fiber used for reinforcing concrete or the like by working lateral grooves with a predetermined pitch on the surface of a metal wire and then cutting the wire with a tool having a corrugated edge. CONSTITUTION:A steel wire 2 is threaded between a press roller 20 and a grooved roller 21 to form on the surface of the wire 2 pressed grooves having a predetermined pitch. The wire 2 having grooves worked is formed into a steel wool 9 having about 30mu of average diameter by a tool 22 having a corrugated edge. Then, the depth of pressed groove is set to at least the maximum thickness provided by the corrugated blade tool. In this case, the depth of the pressed groove is preferably set to the depth of 3 times or less the maximum thickness of the tool.
