A method for the purification of cholesterol oxidase is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of:
<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>(a) contacting a solution of the cholesterol oxidase to be purified with a chromatography composition so as to adsorb the cholesterol oxidase on the composition;</ListItem><ListItem>(b) separating the solution from the chromatography composition; and</ListItem><ListItem>(c) contacting the chromatography composition with an eluting solution containing a surfactant so as to recover the cholesterol oxidase;</ListItem></UnorderedLists>

<UnorderedLists id="ula02" listStyle="none"><ListItem>(1) the chromatography composition comprises an unbound water-insoluble steroid which is a nonsubstrate for cholesterol oxidase and</ListItem><ListItem>(2) the concentration of the surfactant in the eluting solution is between 0.0001 and 10 weight percent of the eluting solution.</ListItem></UnorderedLists>
